Weapons seized, poppy plantation destroyed

Imphal, January 09 2025:
Security forces continued to recover cache of weapons during search operations carried out on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to a police report, a combined team of 33 Assam Rifles and Kakching district commando conducted a search operation in Sekmaijin Hangul Mayai Leiaki under Hiyanglam police station on Thursday.
During the operation, the team recovered one 7.62 SLR without magazine, one SBBL, one country made 9mm pistol, one .32 pistol (country made), two arming rings, three hand grenade tubes, one tube launching, three 9mm live round ammunition, two 12 bore cartridges, 10 AK rifle bullet casings, two stun shells (normal), one tear smoke shell, one tear gas grenade, one stun grenade, one Kenwood wireless set, one torch light (power link solar with Nano Royal inscription), two BP cover (vest) and two tactical boots, and one BP helmet.
Meanwhile, a press note released by Manipur Police Control Room on Wednesday informed that security forces recovered one 5.56 Hekler & Koch G3 rifle with magazine, one .32 pistol with magazine, one 9mm pistol with magazine, ten 7.62mm ammunition, one single barrel rifle and two tube launchers during a search operation conducted at Saheibung Peak, Zero Point-Kotzim Road under Keithelmanbi PS in Kangpokpi district.
On the other hand, a combined team of 37 AR and Forest department along with the executive magistrate destroyed around four acres of poppy plantation, found being illegally grown along Haopi Mollen Hill range under Sangaikot PS in Churachandpur district and also seized 10 poppy pods on Wednesday.
An FIR has also been registered in this regard and investigation is underway to identify the planters, another press note conveyed.
