3000 saplings planted at Lhungtin

Kangpokpi, July 07 2022:
As a part of 73rd Van Mahotsav celebration, people of Lhungtin sub-division in Kangpokpi district planted more than 3000 saplings on Thursday.
Saikul MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangshing, who also participated in the tree plantation drive, said trees are not only important but essential for living as they provide us oxygen, filter carbon dioxide, prevent soil erosion and maintain ecological balance among many others.
The MLA also said that only planting the saplings will not serve any purpose as care and nurture are also required to make the saplings survive and grow while adding that if the saplings survive the plantation drive would be a success.
She appealed to the people of Lhungtin area and village chiefs to consider taking care of the planted saplings as their responsibility toward saving the environment and provide timely and sincere care to the saplings.
The MLA also urged the people to play a pivotal role in preserving the environment by considering it as their responsibility.
The drive was also participated by former MDC of ADC Sadar Hills Thongjalun Mate, various village chiefs, civil bodies of Saikul, SDO Saikul and officials of the district forest department led by DFO.
Tree saplings were also provided to village chiefs of the adjoining areas of Lhungtin Sub Divisional Headquarters for plantation in their respective villages.
