State PMT scrapped, nominees to be selected from NEET

The State Pre-Medical Test (PMT), which is to be conducted by Directorate of Health Services on June 9 in 12 centres across Imphal, has been cancelled as per the decision of the State Cabinet meeting held yesterday.
Addressing media persons at his Secretariat office chamber here today, Spokesperson of State government and Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro informed that the Cabinet resolved to cancel the PMT scheduled on June 9 in accordance to a ruling of the Supreme Court which says that medical entrance tests conducted after the first week of June would be invalidated.
Subsequently, the State nominees for admission to MBBS and BDS courses at various medical and dental colleges across the country would be selected from the merit list of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)-2013 conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Education Minister announced.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test was also conducted in Imphal.
Altogether 4950 candidates out of 5333 registered candidates appeared in the test.
The merit list for NEET was announced on June 5.A total of 2956 candidates (General-550, SC-167, ST-863, OBC-1373 and PH-3) from the State have cleared the test, Okendro noted.
The State PMT was scheduled to be held on June 9 in 12 centres across Imphal with 5756 candidates (male-2453 and female-3303) registered for the test.
The Directorate of Health Services has been hectic all these days in the preparation for conducting the test.
30 seats are reserved for State nominees at the RIMS while JNIMS would accommodate 85 students from the State.
The merit list for selection of State nominees would be drawn from the NEET soon, Okendro stated.
Meanwhile, the Director of Health Services said that the officials have been preparing well to conduct the test.
The Directorate has collected about Rs.40 lakh from the candidates and Rs.22 lakhs has already been spent on various preparation tasks.
Sealed question papers from outside have also been brought to the State.
The Department would further discuss with the higher authorities about the money spent on preparation as well as collected from the candidates, the Director added.
