Cong continues protest over Lakhimpur incident

Congress party on Wednesday continued to protest against the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and subsequent illegal detention of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi while drawing attention of the Supreme Court for necessary intervention.
Interacting with media persons in front of party office here on Wednesday, MPCC spokesperson Ningombam Bhupenda said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to Lucknow to attend Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav but he did not go to Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the victim farmers.
He also questioned the silence of PM Modi and drew attention of the Supreme Court for directing an investigation into the incident by a team headed by a sitting judge.
Priyanka Gandhi has been detained from 4.30 am of October 4 and no formal FIR has been registered till date.
As per Constitution of India, a woman cannot be arrested in the night.
She is also denied meeting with her legal counsel and it is violation of the Constitution of India, he said while accusing BJP of degrading the constitutional and democratic values of the country.
He then questioned the BJP government the reason for denying right to peaceful protest and violating right to life.
He demanded the UP government to restore internet service in.Sitapur and release Priyanka Gandhi from her illegal detention.
