Imphal, February 06 2024:
Nongchup Imphal Loumee-Sinmi Chaokhat Thourang Lup (NILSCTL) has urged the government to release the compensatory package which the Centre sanctioned for the crisis-affected farmers of the state at the earliest.
In a release, NILSCTL said that the distressed farmers felt relief when the government of India announced sanction of compensatory package amounting Rs 38.6 crore as farmlands in periphery areas could not be cultivated due to the ethnic strife that broke out in May last year.
Subsequently, all the required documents were submitted to authorities concerned, but none of the crisis-affected farmers have received any compensation, thereby deepening the suspicion that the said sanctioned amount could have been diverted to other sectors by the state government, maintained the Lup.
Supporting the demand of COCOMI Farmers' Wing for releasing compensation within February 10, the release said that NILSCTL will back every form of protest launched by the COCOMI wing.
