Many call for dropping NIA cases against AT chief

Protests, including sit-ins, torch rallies, and human chain formations, were held in different parts of the state, on Wednesday, demanding withdrawal of cases filed by the NIA against Arambai Tenggol (AT) leader Korounganba Khuman.
Meira Paibis of Lamboi Khong-nangkhong, along with the United Friends Library and Club, organised sit-in protest at the local market shed, demanding that AT leader Korounganba should not be arrested.
During the protest, participants raised slogans and held placards bearing slogans such as "Withdraw the charges against Korounganba by NIA immediately", "We should not forget the contribution of AT", "Government must stop the genocide against the Meeteis by the Kukis" and "Village volunteers must not be arrested" .
Speaking at the sit-in, Club president Dr Thokchom Devendra Kumar Singh remarked that the attacks carried out by the Kukis against the Meeteis since May 2023 are part of an attempt to annihilate the Meetei community.
He said that it was the Arambai Tenggol (AT) who stepped in voluntarily to protect the Meeteis and defend Manipur from these attacks.
He also expressed regret that the village volunteers involved in this effort are now facing various charges, with cases filed against them by the NIA, and called for the immediate withdrawal of these cases.
Nongmeibung Women's Development Meira Paibi Association also organised a sit-in protest at the Nongmeibung multipurpose hall, demanding that the government take action to locate Laishram Kamalbabu, who has been missing since November 25, and ensure his safe return to his family.
Similarly, Sagoltongba Apunba Meira Paibi staged a protest agitations.
Singjamei Apunba Nupi Lup also organised protest at Singjamei parking on Tuesday night to denounce cases filed by the NIA against Korounganba Khuman.
The Lup also demanded immediate withdrawal of the charges.
