Imphal, August 04 2021:
All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers' Union along with several organisations of drivers assessed the condition of the two important lifelines of the state - NH 2 (Imphal-Dimapur) and NH 37 (Imphal-Jiribam) on Wednesday.
Representatives of Surface Transport Hill Areas Drivers' Welfare Union, Senapati District Drivers' Welfare Union, Hill Areas Drivers' Welfare Union Khongsang, All Jiribam Road Transport Drivers Union and Surface Transport Eco and Environment Society Nagaland participated in the assessment visit.
Interacting with the media on the sidelines, drivers' union secretary M Anil said that drivers are carrying out their services for the people of the state amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
During their visit, they found the road in deplorable condition near Barak Bridge and the planks of the bridge are also in bad shape.
Unless the authority repairs the bridge by replacing the planks, untoward incidents might occur, he cautioned.
He also informed that TDC had replaced some of the damaged planks of the bridge as authority concerned failed to address the issue for the last one year.
Drivers are facing various hardships during the rainy season, he pointed out, while urging NHIDCL to take up necessary measures to ensure trouble free experience to the transporters along the highways.
He also appealed to the people settling on both sides of the highways to refrain from activities which might hurt the transporters but to support them.
