Imphal, February 04 2025:
Since the Union Budget 2025-26 is not aimed at benefiting the common people, but rather favours corporate interests and is anti-farmer, the farmers across the country will be taking up agitations by burning the budget copy, informed CPI Manipur State assistant secretary N Singhajit.
Addressing media persons at Irabot Bhawan, BT Road, here, on Tuesday, Singhajit condemned the Union Budget 2025-26, describing it as anti-farmer.
He argued that the budget fails to acknowledge the contributions of farmers, which account for 16 per cent of India's GDP and contributed 50 per cent of the GDP during India's independence.

He expressed disappointment, stating that the budget does not reflect the needs or concerns of the farming community.
Since the budget is anti-farmer, farmers across the countiy will burn the budget copy in public.
CPI Manipur secretary M Joykumar, who was also present at the press briefing, criticised the Union Budget for being disconnected from the needs of the common people.
He pointed out cuts in health, education and social sector funding, and expressed scepticism about the government's claim of a 6.3 percent GDP growth, pointing out that it has dropped to 5.76 percent.
Joykumar also questioned feasibility of the government's promise to exempt income tax for individuals earning below Rs 12 lakhs, casting doubt on its implementation.
Additionally, he highlighted that the budget allocation for the northeastern region stands at only Rs 5,915 crore, with no special provisions for Manipur, which has been facing a crisis since May 2023.The budget would oner no relief to the public but would instead worsen their sufferings, he claimed.
