Imphal, November 03 2023:
SDPO Anand's death is the spark that has enabled the state to move towards the road to peace after it remained elusive for a long time.
However, true peace will be restored in the state only when the ten MLAs who are associated with militant groups are disqualified and imprisoned, asserted Khwairamband Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace convenor Laishram Memma.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club, here, on Friday, Memma said that the state has been in turmoil since May 3.However, the recent killing of Moreh SDPO Ch Anand by Kuki militants paved the way for restoring peace in the state as both central and state governments were reduced to bystanders while unruly elements laid siege on Moreh town.
However, Anand's death helped in re-opening the road to Moreh, she continued while Contending that the Kuki militants' aspiration for a separate administration will forever remain a dream.
While expressing appreciation over the on-going search operations in Moreh, she however, wondered why the government could not send more forces earlier, before anyone was killed.
Memma then said that the MLAs who have betrayed Manipur by plotting disintegration for creation of a separate state should be disqualified.
The state government should answer why the MLAs have not been disqualified till date.
In addition, it should ensure that the displaced people are able to return to their original homes so as bolster restoration of peace in the state.
Appreciating the government for assuring ex-gratia and suitable government job to the family of Anand, she urged for similar compassionate treatments to civilians who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of protecting the integrity of the state.
If the government fails to do so, it will be seen as a corrupt government.
Additionally, the central government should abrogate the SoO agreement considering the fact that cadres of Kuki militant outfits have gone missing from their designated camps.
Later, volunteers of the Committee observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to SDPO Ch Anand.
