Imphal, October 03 2021:
All Tamenglong VDF Welfare Association and Chandel District VDF Welfare Association have strongly condemned the statements made by Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar with regard to his opposition to framing of service rules and regulations (RR) for the Village Defence Forces (VDF) .
According to separate statements issued by the two Associations, representatives of VDF Central Committee had called on the deputy CM on September 22 for his support on the letter sent by deputy secretary (Home) to the state DGP regarding the RR for VDF personnel.
However, the meeting took an unexpected and ugly turn as the deputy CM started to verbally attack the representatives.
He even went on to continuously contact the DGP instructing that the process for framing RR for VDF personnel should not be given green signal or allowed the matter to be placed in the state cabinet, while maintaining that the Committee was formed by a small group of people and need not be taken into consideration.
Joykumar also reportedly said that he will fully oppose it if the matter comes up during the cabinet meeting.
The use of derogatory language by the deputy CM is uncalled for and it is unbecoming of an elected legislator, not to mention of it as an attempt to demoralise the VDF personnel who are playing a key role in maintaining the law-and-order situation in the state.
Taking the threats and indifferent attitude of the deputy CM as an act of provocation and looking down upon the VDF personnel; the Associations urged the state government to look into the matter and prevent a repeat of such incidents in the future.
The two Associations also unanimously decided to extend full support to any decision taken by the Central Committee (All Manipur VDF Welfare Association) against the deputy CM if the latter fails to retract his stand on the matter.
