Bishnupur, August 03 2024:
Commercial establishments under Moirang Municipal Council including shops, hotels, vegetable vendors and pharmacy shut down shutters and their owners staged a sit-in protest at Moirang Keithel on Saturday against unaffordable monetary demand made by armed groups.
Speaking to media persons, one of the protesting women stated that commercial firms in Moirang had remained shut for long time due to the ongoing crisis that erupted on May 3, 2023 and during that period the owners had extended help to village volunteers and to relief camps set up for internally displaced persons (IDPs) .
She further appealed to armed groups not to make exorbitant demand at a time when the sale is low and there are days when they do not even make even single sale.
The woman protestor further announced that they will continue their protest and the establishments will remain shut till Sunday.
During the protest, the agitators chanted slogans such as 'no further monetary demand in Moirang area', 'resolve the crisis in Manipur at the earliest',
etc.
