CM lays foundation for multi-storeyed quarters

The government has been making all out efforts since 2017 to bring developmental changes in both the hills and the valley, said Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who on Monday laid the foundation stone for construction of multi-storeyed government quarters at Langol Housing Complex, Imphal West.
The project cost pegged around Rs 65.60 crore will be funded by Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO) with the Planning and Development Authority as the implementing agency.
The twin block (G+7 building) will have dwelling units of 64 numbers of Type-Ill having two bedrooms, one kitchen, one living cum dining room, two attached toilets, balconies and other amenities.
Biren continued that around two-and-half years were lost to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, despite the challenges, the government had made some big achievements.
After the government returned for the second term with the love of the people, it has lost around two years due to the present situation.
But the government has not stopped, and continued with developmental projects and at the same time work towards resolving the situation, he stressed.
The chief minister also explained the need for vertical expansion to minimize land use and highlighted that similar construction at New Checkon area where 13 high rises are being constructed as government quarters.
Stating that similar high rises will be constructed, the chief minister appealed to the people to care for nature, maintain cleanliness and ensure that drainage systems are not blocked.
He further explained the developmental project being taken up to rejuvenate Lamphelpat and said that on its completion, it can be used as recreational spot.
However, he expressed dismay on structural constructions in wetland areas.
While pointing out time lost due to various reasons and the fact that the state has a long rainy season, the CM urged the PDA and the contractors concerned to work day and night for completion of the building within 12-16 months.
The ceremony was attended by ministers Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh, Th Basanta Kumar Singh, Khashim Vashum, MLAs Sapam Kunjakeswor Singh, Karam Shyam, Usham Deben Singh, Th Shyamkumar, Losii Dikho, and S Premchan-dra, and PDA officials among others.
