DEO holds meet on MCMC, poll preparedness

Bishnupur, February 03 2022: In connection with the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, Bishnupur District Election Officer (DEO) L Bikram chaired a joint meeting with representatives of political parties and media perspns at the conference hall of the DC's office on Thursday during which the participants were briefed on COVID guidelines, model code of conduct, expenditure monitoring and other election related matters.

During the meeting, L Bikram informed that 1,81,715 electors including 93,281 females and 31 transgender voters from six assembly constituencies of Bishnupur district will exercise their franchise in the first phase polls on February 27.Out of the total of 234 polling stations in the district, 49 women-only polling stations have been finalised and 1,170 polling personnel will be deployed for poll duty.

A total of 2,700 armed and 1200 unarmed personnel will also be deployed for security of the polling stations, out of which 17 have been identified as sensitive and 49 as vulnerable.

Stating that paid news deprived level playing field among political parties and candidates, L Bikram appealed to the media fraternity to avoid paid news.

Highlighting the role of MCMC along with media certification, he further urged the media persons to conform to ethical media coverage of election news by emphasising on objective and unbiased reporting.

Speaking about COVID protocols, L Bikram informed that all precautionary measures including vaccination, thermal screening on poll day, masking and other COVID guidelines will be enforced.

He urged party representatives to engage only fully vaccinated persons for polling and counting duties while also advocating strict adherence to COVID appropriate behaviour during the election campaigns and on polling day.

The DEO also appealed for cooperation from all concerned to ensure a peaceful and smooth election in the district.

AC to DC Ejaj Hassan and all the ROs from the district also participated in the meeting.
