Ukhrul, July 31 2024:
Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) strongly condemned the incident that took place at Ocean Lounge, Khuman Lampak, Imphal, on July 26 and demanded swift delivery of justice to the victims.
The TNL in a statement stated that it unequivocally condemns the shocking incident and demands that the culprits be booked and brought to justice expeditiously and befitting penalties be imposed.
The victim should be duly compensated, it added.
While mentioning that out of sheer necessity driven by extreme poverty, the young girl has been working in a local eatery to earn a meagre income to support herself, it lamented that such rowdy elements continue to emerge with the intent to harm vulnerable tribals and to tarnish the reputation of Imphal.
In a separate statement, TSL urged authority concerned to book the culprits involved in the incident and give befitting punishment as per the law.
"We appeal to all women's organisations in the state to stand together for justice on crime against women and to extend cooperation to authority concerned.
We also earnestly appeal to members of the armed groups and organisations not to anger women and to refrain from such barbaric act in the near future" .
It mentioned that during the event, Leishithem Makung, a young girl from Loushing village in Ukhrul district, was subjected to sexual harassment at her workplace and six of her friends who came to her rescue were brutally assaulted with firearms by members of Pambei-led UNLF.
"Such indecent behaviour and assault to women is not an isolated case in Imphal, the state capital of Manipur and raises serious concerns of the prevailing law and order situation.
Cruelty and attack on women's modesty have no place in civilized society and should be condemned by all," it stated.
