Imphal, July 31 2023:
During the ongoing crisis, Kuki miscreants targeted road projects along NH 37 (Imphal-Jiribam highway), burning at least 14 excavators and a truck trailer.
The incident took place on May 4, between Keithelmanbi and K Sinam village, under the jurisdiction of New Keithelmanbi police station.
Owners of the heavy machineries disclosed about the selective targeting in a press meet held on Monday.
Nongmaithem Inao, representing the owners, expressed concern over lack of government initiative in addressing the issue.
Despite filing a FIR at the police station concerned right after the violence occurred, no action has been taken against the criminals responsible for the arson.
After almost three months since the incident occurred, they received reports that the Kuki population living along the Imphal-Jiribam highway is now attempting to sell the burnt machineries as scrap in Assam's Silchar.
Inao urged the government to promptly investigate the case and apprehend the culprits involved in the arson.
He also pleaded for efforts to salvage whatever remains of the damaged machineries to minimise their losses.
The situation has caused significant distress among the owners, he added.
