Imphal, February 29 2024:
Chief minister N Biren made it clear in the House that there is no question of reviving the Old Age Pension (OPS) scheme in the state even though government employees are demanding revival of the scheme.
Responding to a query raised by Congress MLA K Meghachandra during Question Hour on the second day of the ongoing assembly session on Thursday, N Biren, also in charge of finance portfolio, said OPS is a pension without fund and there is no corpus or separate fund for pension to be given in future.
Pension has to be given as per resources and OPS will differentiate future pensioners and accordingly this will give implications to future generations, he Said.
Unlike OPS, the New Pension Scheme (NPS) incorporates fund and there is separate fund for pensioners under NPS, Biren said adding that NPS would not differentiate pensioners as amount to be given to pensioners in future have already been earmarked.
He also said that there will be no differentiation of pensioners under NPS as the pensioners would not face any problem.
The chief minister also highlighted various, problems particularly finance matters to be faced when OPS is revived by citing reports of the RBI to the state government.
