'Chinga Mipham' of 1938 remembered

Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council on Thursday commemorated the historic Chinga Mipham' (meeting), which was held on December 29 and 30 in 1938.The solemn function held at Irabot Bhawan here was attended by CPI State secretary Laishram Sotinkumar, comrade A Chaobi Sharma, CPI Manipur State Council City District secretary S Yaima and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Sotinkumar recounted that Chinga Mipham' which was presided over by Jananeta Hijam Jrabot was a turning point in the political history of Manipur.
He said Hijam Irabot established the first political party of the state, Nikhil Hindu Manipuri Mahasabha and stood up against the then monarchy and the British Raj systems.
In 1917, the Mahasabha informed the masses of the success of the Russian revolution.
So, the 4th Chinga Mipham of Mahasabha was an awakening meet for the people of Manipur and it was incidentally the first movement for social and political change held under the guidance of Jananeta Hijam Irabot.
As part of the observance, floral tributes were offered to the bust of Hijam Irabot installed at the Bhawan.
