Imphal, November 29 2024:
A team of Zeme civil society organisations (CSOs) led by Zeme Naga Council Manipur (ZNCM) inspected work sites of the ongoing construction of NH-137 on November 27 and 28.During the visit, the team met with officials of construction agencies, advised them to maintain high-quality work and urged the companies to deploy sufficient machinery and manpower to ensure speedy progress during the limited workable seasons.
The team held consultative meeting with Tousem Village Authority and Mandeu Village Authority wherein attendees welcomed and appreciated any developmental projects aimed at improving the well-being of the Tousem area people.
The public resolved that the ongoing construction of NH137 within the Zeme jurisdiction should be completed on time without any disturbances.
However, expressing discontent over sluggish pace of development projects in Zeme areas, the Zeme CSO leaders declared that no projects can proceed without the permission and consent of the stakeholders.
They expressed sympathy for the marginalised people of Tousem sub-division, highlighting the urgent need for improved road connectivity and functioning of head quarters offices to enhance the living conditions of the people covering vast geo graphical areas.
Further, the CSO leaders highlighted the need to improve primary schools and foster the children.
The meeting also addressed the need for a subsidiary road connecting NH-137 to Katangnam via Tousem and Phoklong, and numerous villages, making it a direct route to connect with neighbouring Nagaland.
