Imphal, July 25 2014 :
The All Manipur Students' Guardian Organisation (AMSGO) on Thursday demanded that the Internal Assessment Mark (IAM) system introduced under Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) be retracted if the Education Department is not handy enough to implement it.
Quality education has been affected by the newly introduced CCE system in the state though most of the students get higher marks in both the Higher Secondary and High School Leaving Certificates examinations conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) and Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM), S Sumati Devi, secretary organisation, AMSGO said during a press meet at the office of the organisation in Palace Compound here.
Under CCE system, every school gives 20 marks to all the students and another 30 practical marks to the class XII students as Internal Assessment Marks, she said and alleged that the schools are careless while giving these marks to the students.
Although students can easily get through the exams, the CCE system affects quality education, Sumati observed and demanded that the IAM system should be either cancelled or a monitoring cell should be set up if the Government, COHSEM and BSEM are not convenient to handle the system.
The Government teachers are now all trained teachers, she said, but added that the Education minister needs to provide training to all the private school teachers too in order to bring quality education.
She said all the Government schools provide 25 percent free education to students from low-income families under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), but such facilities are not given to the students in private schools.
Sumati said poor students are facing difficulties while paying admission fees to Government run schools because COHSEM and BSEM are taking higher fee charges from students.
She demanded that the Government should take decision in the ongoing assembly session to give aid to the Council and Board for the welfare of students from poor economic background.
The Government should enact the Manipur Education Service Act as early as possible, she demanded and said making it compulsory for students to wear two-three sets of uniform also has indirect impact on quality education.
She appealed to all schools not issue more than one set of school uniform and announced that AMSGO will start looking into the issue soon.
