District police organise campaign against drug menace

In support of the 'war on drugs' campaign of the state government and commemorate observance of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Traffic, Senapati, Kangpokpi and Noney police carried out awareness marches in their respective districts on Saturday.
Under the theme "Share drug facts, save life", the event organised by Senapati police station and women's police station was participated by CSOs including Karong Senapati Town Committee, Senapati District Students' Association, Senapati District Women's Association and others.
Addressing media persons, Stanley Keishing, OC Senapati police station, stated that with numbers of drug abuse rising in the region, the district police carried out the campaign including poster campaign against drugs.
Similar programme was also carried out at Mao Gate organised by Mao police station in collaboration with civil organisations under the theme "Drug Free India".
Speaking on the occasion, Mao Town Committee functionaries stated that it is not wise to use drugs and should be banned.
The town committee has reportedly restricted sale of liquor in Mao area since many years back.
Anyone found indulging in such trade would be penalised with heavy fines by the town committee along with the youth organisations in collaboration of Mao police.
Mao Council, Mao Women's Society and Mao Students' Union had earlier declared to state chief minister banning of all kinds of sale and trafficking of drugs in Mao area.
The Mao committee is also fully supporting the "War on Drugs 2.0".In commemoration of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Kangpokpi police also organised a rally on Saturday morning under the motto 'Nasha Se Azadi Pakhwada'.
The march was participated by hundreds of personnel and officials of Kangpokpi police station including women personnel and 4 IRB Kalapahar outpost.
The rally flagged off from Kangpokpi police station covered SP Kangpokpi office via Trans Asian Highway No 1 and culminated at the starting point.
It may be mentioned that Kangpokpi police under SP Amrita Sinha and her subordinate officers made three major drug hauls during the past few months as part of 'War on Drugs 2.0' campaign and even received recognition and reward from the state government.
The Day was also observed at Kangchup Police Station by organising a rally from Singda bazar to Tuikun bazar with the participation of 22 Assam Rifles, Kangchup COB and villagers of Tuikun.
The rally culminated at Tuikun village.
At New Keithelmanbi Police Station, an awareness programme was conducted with the participation of village chiefs, KSO volunteers, local youth club members, Women union leaders and 10 Assam Rifles Noney Battalion, Kotlen COB.
The participants pledged for a drug-free society during the awareness programme and declared support to the government's 'War on Drugs' campaign.
A mass awareness rally organised by Noney district police was also taken out in and around at Longmai Noney Bazar in Noney district.
The rally began from the Ijei river bridge and ended at the Forest Gate.
Around 70 police personnel led by additional SPs Peter Namsadai Pamei and John Lokho, Longmai Bazar Youth Club members, Longmai Area Nisha Bandh women folks, PLVs of Noney Legal Aid Clinic and students of Sharon English High School participated in the said rally.
During the rallies and awareness programmes in the all three district headquarters, the participants held placards inscribed 'No to Drugs, Yes to life', 'Let's save our youth', 'Health is Wealth', 'Let's join anti-drugs campaign', "Hugs not Drugs", "Drugs kill you slowly", "Quit Drugs", "Choose life, It is easier to stay off drugs than to get off drugs", etc.
