Training on rainwater harvesting organised

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra Churachandpur, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region organised a training programme on "Water Conservation and Rain Water Harvesting" under "Jal Shakti Abhiyan" on Wednesday under the patronage of ICAR RC for NEH Region joint director Dr I Meghachandra Singh.
The inaugural function was attended by Churachandpur district agriculture officer MK Elizabeth, ICAR Manipur Centre senior scientist Dr Kh Rishikanta Singh, KVK Tamenglong & Tupul head in-charge Dr K Rabi, who is also senior scientist, and 1CAR-KVK Churachandpur head in-charge L Somendro Singh as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
About 53 farmers from different parts of the district participated in the training programme.
During the inaugural session, KVK Churachandpur head in-charge L Somendro Singh highlighted the theme of Jal Shakti Abhiyan "Catch the rain, Where it Falls When it Falls" covering both rural as well as urban areas of all districts in the country, during the pre-monsoon and monsoon period.
He further stressed that we should give importance to creation/maintenance of water conservation and rainwater harvesting structures, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse and recharge of bore wells, watershed development, and intensive afforestation.
Delivering the address as the chief guest, MK Elizabeth highlighted various schemes and activities that were associated with the department.
She further drew the attention of farmers to harvest rain water into any form structure like pond, 'jalkund', etc.
Rishikanta Singh on the other hand mentioned that water forms over 90 per cent of the plant body by green or fresh weight basis and essential for the germination of seeds, growth of plant roots, and nutrition and multiplication of soil organism while Rabi stated that Jal Shakti Abhiyan aims to create awareness and bring together all stakeholders in a.mass movement to conserve and recharge water.
The programme was followed by technical session during which KVK-Chandel CTO-Agriculture engineering Dr K Sonamani Singh delivered a lecture on topic "Water conservation and rain water harvesting" and Somendro Singh on "Importance water and its application in crop cultivation" .
