Imphal, January 25 2023: The 13th National Voters' Day was celebrated by Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur under the theme of 'Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure', at the auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Dance Academy on Wednesday.

The celebration was attended by chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar as chief guest; CEO in-charge Naorem Praveen as president and DGP P Doun-gel as guest of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rajesh Kumar congratulated the awardees and expressed that Manipur has witnessed the most peaceful election recently in the past, while further ob serving that there was complete change.

He said that we have election observers from income tax and customs for the smooth conduct of election.

The chief secretary further said that from booth level officers to the Chief Electoral Officer, there was outstanding performance in the conduct of peaceful elections in the past.

He then appealed to the young new voters to be alert, know the value of voting, come out and participate in the elections including the Local Body and District Council elections without fear in future.

In his speech, CEO in-charge Naorem Praveen remarked that the last elections could be held in a peaceful manner due to the support of the police department and other line departments, in addition to strong work ethics of the election teams.

Presently, three people from Manipur have won national awards on this National Voter Day, making the state with the highest number of recipients of the award this year.

The awards will be presented to the recipients by the President of India in a function, he said.

Later, Dr Rajesh Kumar administered the Oath of National Voters' Day pledge.

An ECI song "Main Bharat Hoon-Hum Bharat Ke Matdata Hain" produced by ECI and the address of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar were screened during the function, followed by presentation of EPIC Card and badges to newly enrolled voters and felicitation of the state's icons by the CS.

Special cash awards were distributed to Deputy Commissioners of Bishnupur and Thoubal districts for their good performance in the process of electoral practices.

National Voters' Day is held to promote and encouraged the youth to participate in the voter registration, especially among new or first-time voters.

The day is being celebrated since 2011 across the country to mark the foundation of the Election Commission of India i.e., January 25,1950 .

The commemoration of "National Voters' Day" was started in 2011 by the then President of India Pratibha Patil, on the 61st anniversary of the founding of the Election Commission of India.
