Bishnupur, March 24 2025:
Bishnupur District Congress Committee organised the Sambidhaan Bachao Rashtriya Padyayatra at Nachou Maning Leikai community hall on Monday.
In addition to organising the event, 98-year-old Congress leader Laishram Shatrajit Singh, who had been imprisoned during the movement for demand of statehood and had participated in the Congress centenary celebration in Bombay in 1985, was honoured with presentation of certificate and shawl.
Speaking at the event, MPCC president K Meghachandra contended that since the BJP came to power in 2014, the people of the state have been suffering and struggling to survive.
He lamented that many have been living in relief camps ever since the crisis in Manipur broke out, and attributed inability of the government to address the same as a direct fallout of the failure to uphold the Constitution of India.
"Only a government that respects the Constitution can bring peace to the state," he remarked.
The Congress MLA said that violence cannot bring peace to the state, adding that even with law and order in place, lives and property of the people of Manipur are far from being secured.
"It is, therefore, crucial to protect the lives and property of ordinary citizens," he stressed, and pointed out that while the people of the state struggle for survival, they are not living in peace due to the current situation.
The event was attended by Bishnupur District Congress Committee president Md Nur Rahman, Moirang former MLA P Sharatchandra," Tamenglong ex-MLA Samuel Jendai, ex-MP Dr Th Meinya, MPCC vice presidents Bidyapati Senjam and Harishwar Goswami.
