Imphal, January 24 2018: Despite numerous strict measures being taken up by the security forces in light of the coming Republic Day celebration, an IED was found along the National Highway 102, at Khongjom Uningkhong (between Khongjom and Wangjing) .

According to reliable sources, the IED was found by the sniffer dogs of a morning patrolling team of 26 AR.

Traffic along the road was blocked from 8 am to around 12 pm due to the presence of the IED.

Security forces diverted the traffic coming from Kakching side towards Khongjom and the traffic coming from Thoubal side were diverted to Tentha Lamkhai and Samaram.

The State bomb experts team soon arrived at the scene and inspected the bomb side.

Initially the bomb experts found that the suspected IED was just some left over parts and residue of firecrackers.

However, the sniffer dogs of the 26 AR, found a real IED packed inside an electric pressure cooker, weighing around 3 kgs( including the cooker), around three feet away from the spot.

Unable to transport the IED to a safe location, the bomb experts team disposed the bomb on the spot at around 1.13 pm, after taking all precautionary measures.

Top officials of district police, ADM of Thoubal District Administration and top officials of 26 AR were also present at the spot.
