Imphal, July 22 2022:
The Protection and Preservation Committee, Manipur (PPCM) has appealed to all traders and shopkeepers to not sell essential or any other items at an exorbitant rate by taking advantage of the Covid situation in Manipur.
The committee also appealed to the people to always adhere to SOPs of COVID-19 to prevent infections.
In a statement, PPCM said that the people are not satisfied with the measures being taken up by the State Government to defeat the pandemic.
Asking why the Government is updating the figure of daily Covid infections at only district level and not narrow it down to locality level so that people could take up precautions to avoid getting infected, PPCM said that people hardly follow Covid appropriate behaviour these days and as such the Government not mentioning the exact places where Covid cases are detected poses serious threat to public health.
The majority of people in Manipur are working class people and as such they may enter the houses of Covid infected persons by accident, PPCM said and expressed desire for the Government to publish the details of fresh Covid cases precisely so that utmost precaution could be taken, and prevent Covid spread.
"Updating fresh Covid cases in general at district level could be a major factor which lead to the spread of the virus as many people infected by coronavirus opt to go for home quarantine," it pointed out.
Stating that majority of the families in Manipur don't have proper amenities which fulfil the revised guidelines for Home Isolation while many others don't even have a latrine, PPCM urged the State Government to.
roll out more appropriate measures to beat the 4th wave of Covid pandemic.
The committee also appealed to the public to conform to the SOPs for Covid.
Further urging the Government to prevent hoarding or marketing of essential and other items at a higher rate by taking advantage of Covid situation, PPCM said that they too will launch a drive to check if people rigorously follow Covid appropriate behaviour or not and black marketing.
The PPCM sought support from the Government and the people to carry out the drive efficiently.
