Government assures to protect Peepal trees: Nature Club

While informing that the government authorities have assured of carrying out road expansion work without felling the 13 pee-pal trees (Sana Khongnang) growing on the roadside from MU gate to Lilong, Nature Club has lauded PWD and forest department for understanding the sentiment of the people.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday, Nature Club co-convenor Sarungbam Rohitkumar lamented that there were several instances of felling fully grown trees in the name of development in the past.
The Club also came across reports that 13 peepal trees growing in between MU gate to Lilong would be cut for road expansion.
Subsequently, the Club met departments concerned namely forest and PWD three-four times and even submitted memorandum with request for expanding the road but by saving the trees, he pointed out.
He lauded the officials for giving positive response to their demand considering the sentiments of the people.
Informing that representatives of the Club met PWD chief engineer on Saturday, Sarungbam Ro-hitkumar said that PWD has already made a blue print to construct the road without cutting down the 13 peepal trees.
There is possibility of one tree being affected in the construction but will be shifted using machinery to another suitable location, he said, while adding that the department assured of honouring the proposal of Nature Club.
