Imphal, September 21 2021:
Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) has submitted memorandum to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister urging them to look into the boundary row with Myanmar especially in the surrounding areas of border pillar no 81 and to halt the ongoing border fencing work until re-survey of the international boundary with Myanmar is conducted.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, MDA convenor M Tombi informed that the memorandum was submitted by a team of MDA led by him on September 9 at the national capital.
He said that the area of the state has shrunk substantially since the merger agreement was signed.
MDA demanded the union government to maintain the area of the state including Kabaw Valley, which was once part of Manipur.
It also demanded the Centre to conduct a fresh survey to verify and relocate BP 81, which has been erected inside the state's territory and to stop the border fencing work in areas between BP 80 to 82 until a proper survey is conducted.
He also informed that a copy of the memorandum has been submitted to union minister of state for external affairs Dr RK Ranjan and the latter assured of bringing up the matter to the notice of the Prime Minister for an early solution.
Dr Ranjan also told theMDA team that a central government team will arrive shortly to conduct a fresh survey of the boundary, Tombi said.
Regarding the nationwide protest being launched by 11 opposition parties in the state, Tombi said that the protest is against the welfare activities of the government and there is no reason to support the protest.
MDA will not blindly oppose the government, he said and added that NCP and BSP have been ousted from the alliance for difference of opinions.
