The Special Judge, NIA Imphal East remanded three active cadres of PLA to further police custody.
The PLA cadres were arrested on alleged charges of planning to carry out attacks on non-Manipuris working in Jiribam and other parts of the State.
The accused identified as Moirangthem Nungsithoiba (27) s/o (L) Babasana of Bidyanagar Mamang Leikai, Konthoujam Ibomcha (42) s/ o Birachandra of Gularthol and Khuilachung Peter (34) s/o P Jonah of Kalinagar Part II were produced before the Court by a team of Jiribam police station after completion of police custody period along with a prayer for further police custody remand.
On the other hand, the defence counsel of the alleged accused filed remand objection along with a prayer to release them on bail.
Through an APP, the IO of the case, submitted that Moirangthem Nungsithoiba was arrested during a cordon and search operation at Bidyanagar on July 13 morning and on verification, he revealed that he has been in regular, contact since 2017 with one Manithoiba of the PLA of Chandrapur, presently staying somewhere in Imphal.
In the course of investigation, it was ascertained that one country made pistol with magazine and six live rounds were kept concealed by one of Moirangthem Nungsithoiba's associates identified as Konthoujam Ibomcha and accordingly, Ibomcha was arrested from Irabot Crossing oh the same day.
On preliminary interrogation, Ibomcha revealed that Peter arranged to deliver the country made pistol to him at Rs 35,000 but Ibomcha did not disclose about the concealment of the country made pistol.
As such, Peter was also arrested from Jiribam Police gate.
The IO further submitted that the arrested persons were planning to carry out attacks against non-Manipuris working in different parts of the State in general and Jiribam in particular.
Arguing that further investigation and interrogation is required to thwart their plan, the IO prayed for remanding the trio to police custody for five more days.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the IO and on perusal of the case record, remanded all three of them to police custody till July 25 .
