Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary and Khangabok AC MLA Surjakumar Okram has stated that trampling on the rights of opposition, media and 'Freedom of Speech' will not bring good governance in the country.
Speaking during a protest organised by Khangabok Block Congress Committee under the aegis of MPCC at Wangbal on Tuesday against alleged framing of false charges by Enforcement Directorate on Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, police excesses on opposition leaders and use of police and other agencies as weapons by the BJP government, MLA Surjakumar said that in a democratic country presence of strong opposition is very essential.
But the BJP government at the centre in very undemocratic manner is filing false FIRs against opposition leaders to arrest them.
Using police in such wrongful manner against the opposition is not a good thing and will have repercussion, he remarked.
The MLA also opined that the nationwide protest due to the recent Agnipath Scheme and the protest against farm laws in the past would not have occurred had the government consulted with the opposition.
Mentioning that the opposition parties are also working for the welfare of the nation and public, he appealed to the government to stop targeting opposition leaders.
Surjakumar revealed that more such pro tests Will beheld at block levels.
During the protest, Congress workers raised slogans and displayed banners condemning the action of the BJP government at the centre.
