Manipuri Folk Dance festival held

Imphal, March 21 2025:
A state-level festival of Manipuri folk dance was organised by Sangeet Kala Sangam under the CFPG scheme of the Ministry of Culture at the Lamlong auditorium of the Sangam on Friday.
The festival, held in honour of late Guru Chingangbam Kullabidhu Singh, commenced with offering of floral tributes to his photograph.
Speaking as chief guest, retired Pradhan Guru of JNMDA and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Arambam Tombinou highlighted that folk traditions form the foundation of all cultures, instilling values of discipline and respect, while urging the younger generation to uphold these roots.

He also highlighted that 'Thabal Chongba' is a folk dance of the Meeteis and noted that it can be said that folk traditions are practices that individuals can naturally perform and participate in without formal training.
He further added that classical dance has its origins in folk traditions, underscoring the need to promote and preserve these age-old art forms.
Presided over by Sangeet Kala Sangam president N Ba-buto, the function was also attended by EZCC, Kolkata Board of Governor member Budha Chingtham as guest of honour.
Artistes from various cultural institutes across the state participated in the event, presenting traditional folk dances on the occasion.
