Mutual respect strengthens unity, says CM Biren

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has called for mutual respect to strengthen the bond of unity among the different communities of the state, stating that the BJP-led government does not differentiate between hills and the valley in its developmental projects, believing in the inclusive development of the state.
"When we show respect for one another, the bond of unity will grow stronger," Biren remarked while addressing the gathering at the 33rd General Conference cum Sports Meet, 2025, held at Riha village, Kamjong district on Tuesday.
The event was organised by the Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long (Southern Tangkhul Students' Union) .
The CM also expressed his happiness at witnessing the scenic beauty of the surroundings and appreciated the locals for preserving and taking good care of the environment.
Elaborating on some major works undertaken in Kamjong district over the past seven years, the chief minister announced that the construction of the mini secretariat in Kamjong has been completed and will be inaugurated soon.
The Ava (Ima) Market and Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) will also be inaugurated shortly.
He further mentioned that two higher secondary schools in the district will be upgraded, and the construction of school buildings at Kamjong and Kasom is nearing completion.
Additionally, the construction of two schools under the School Fagathansi Mission at Kamjong and Kasom Khullen is almost finished, and the DIET Centre at Kasom Khullen is underway.
He added that 33/11KV sub-stations are being constructed at Nambashi and Ramphoi.
Highlighting recently sanctioned projects for the district, Biren stated that NH-102A from Shangshak to Tengnoupal has been approved with an estimated cost of around Rs 1,300 crore.
He also informed that the construction of a bridge over the Maklang River has been sanctioned and that a District Transport Office (DTO) will soon be opened in Kamjong.
The CM further assured that the government is considering developing Riha village as a tourist destination through various developmental projects.
Citing developmental works in the hill districts, he mentioned that an Astroturf football ground has been handed over to the people of Ukhrul district.
The gallery of the Ukhrul Sports Complex was also constructed under the BJP-led government.
Additionally, the construction of an amusement park is underway, and Pettigrew College will be upgraded with an estimated cost of around Rs 70 crore.
To address the issue of water scarcity in Ukhrul district, a dam has been constructed at Shirui Hill, with a total amount of around Rs 6 crore sanctioned.
The state government is also considering establishing a degree college in Kamjong district, he revealed.
The chief minister also assured that the government will construct a gallery at Lungreiphung Ground in Riha village, Kamjong district, with an estimated cost of around Rs 2.5 crore.
The function was attended by ministers, MLAs, village chiefs, CSO leaders, and locals of Riha village, among others.
