Workshop cum exhibition on food processing begins

A two-day-long workshop cum exhibition on food processing, which is being organised by College of Food Technology of Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal as part of National Technology Day observance kicked off at Food Processing Pilot Plant of the college on Saturday.
The inaugural session of the workshop cum exhibition being organised under the sponsorship of Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) of state horticulture & soil conservation department was attended by CAU Imphal vice chancellor Dr Anupam Mishra as chief guest, College of Food Technology dean professor Ng Iboyaima as president while Thangjam Agro Industries Private Limited managing director Thangjam Joykumar, director (horticulture & soil conservation) K Devdutta Sharma, CAU director of extension Dr Indira Sarangthem, CAU director of research Dr LM Gyanic and CAU director of extension education Dr Ph Ranjit Sharma were present as guests of honour.
In his speech at the event, Dr Anupam Mishra that said the workshop cum exhibition has been organised to bring together entrepreneurs, farmer producer organisations and farmer producers companies working in food processing sector under one platform to develop food industry in the state.
The workshop aims to encourage emerging young entrepreneurs and make them aware about schemes being initiated by both the state and Central government in food processing sector, he said and appealed to entrepreneurs to avail benefits of government schemes.
He also said that.unique products of the state like Chak-hao, pineapple, U-Morok, Kachai Champra and Tamenglong oranges have high demand from outside.
A total of 34 stalls representing five different colleges, FPOs, FPCs and entrepreneurs are exhibiting their products at the exhibition section.
Thangjam Joykumar, NABARD district development manager Th Kiran and professor Ng Joykumar of college of food technology talked on food processing and market-' ing as resource persons in the first technical session of the workshop.
