CCpur, July 20 2022:
One day af ter the State Health Directorate issued an order on July 6 to resume screen ing of passengers entering the State at some identified sites including Behiang at the Myanmar border and Sinzawl at the Mizoram border, the screening pro cess was operationalised However Dr Kaisiankhai Haokip, District Surveillance Officer/IDSP CCpur said screening of incoming passengers at Behiang is nominal as movement across the international border is strictly prohibited and monitored not only by the State forces but by the Central para-military forces as well while at the Mizoram border the col-lapse of a bailey bridge in between Sinzawl and Khuanggin has strictly lim ited the movement of incoming passengers.
Nevertheless, the few passengers who are com ing from Mizoram are screened and tested at Sinzawl, he added.
As Churachandpur yes terday logged the highest Covid cases since the on set of the fourth wave, health officials have raised concerns over the viola -tions of Covid appropriate behavior or protocol.
New cases have witnessed a surge in the past few days despite the fact that there was no substantial increase in the number of tests conducted.
Dr Kaisiankhai Haokip appealed to the public, calling on everyone to follow Covid SOPs by wearing face masks, using hand sanitizers and avoiding crowded places.
It is disheartening that very few people have conformed to wearing face masks and using hand sanitizers.
The general public seems averse to taking the Covid tests, he said.
Churachandpur yesterday logged 15 new cases, the highest during the fourth wave that has gripped the State since July first week.
Many schools have suspended their classes while others which are on vacation have extended the holiday.
The sudden surge in new cases however dipped substantially today as 3 new cases were reported against the 15 cases recorded yesterday.
District health officials once again advised people who show signs and symptoms of Covid to get themselves tested at the District Hospital or at the CMO testing Centre.
