Village elders' conclave organised at Gelnel

Amid celebration of 'Azadi Ka Amfit Mahotsav' and 'Swarnim Vijay Di-was', 44 Assam Rifles organised "Ahal Lamansingi Oiba Meefamlen (Gaon Bura Conclave)" security meeting cum Pre-Christmas feast at Gelnel village under T-Waichong sub-division in Kangpokpi district with an aim to increase bonhomie among the villagers and also to sensitise the security consciousness in the area in view of the festive month and forthcoming assembly election in the state.
In a release, PRO (Defence) informed that the event was attended by chairmen/elders from 16 different villages of the area.
During the meeting, company commander of Gelnel post highlighted the present security scenario and coordination aspects with security forces and villagers along with method of exchange of information regarding activities of anti-social elements in the area to thwart their aim so as to ensure peace and prosperity in the area.
Village data record and important contact numbers were also exchanged and verified for better coordination between the villagers and security forces for all future conduct in the area, the release said.
It further informed that the company commander discussed various issues related to security, education, job opportunities, health, social awareness and government schemes with the villagers.
He further highlighted the various welfare projects undertaken by the battalion in the area like medical camps, water scheme, conduct of sports tournament, renovations of school buildings, tree plantation, career guidance lecture and mobile vaccination drive in the area.
In order to provide better educational infrastructure, the unit has so far renovated 4 schools in various parts of T Waichong sub-division and presently it is conducting classes for the students for Sainik School Entrance Test.
Greater collaboration and coordination between the villagers and the security forces to nullify the undesirable activities of anti-social elements in the area was emphasised during the meeting and a common consensus was also made between the security forces and villagers to ensuresafety for construction labourers and not let the pace of development in the region mellow down.
