Imphal, July 17 2024:
Deputy director (handloom and textiles) Th Basanta has said that regardless of the state government mandating cent percent utilisation of local handloom and handicraft products in every government department and institution, materialisation of the same to promote local artisans will depend on efforts of the weavers and craftsmen.
During an interaction programme with weavers at Pukhrambam Mayai Leikai organised by District Handloom and Textiles, Bishnupur on Wednesday, Basanta specified that the government had issued the order with the stated objective of improving economy of weavers.
Even if Manipur Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation (MHHDC) has been tasked to effectively implement the order it would not be possible without the help of weavers and craftsmen, he said while conveying that effective implementation of the government order will hugely benefit weavers and craftsmen.
According to Th Basanta, handloom and textiles directorate will provide yarn, design and other necessities to weavers.
He then appealed to the weavers to work for becoming self-reliant in their profession, discuss problems with district handloom and textiles offices and to possess weaver ID and yarn passbook to avail benefit of the newly introduced Chief Minister's Yarn Scheme.
The interaction programme was also participated by district handloom and textiles, Bishnupur project manager Ch Tombi, project extension officer K Sangita and executives of Nambol, Bishnupur and Moirang cluster development programme.
