Loumi Lup demands timely supply of urea

While demanding that the government ensure availability(of adequate quantity of urea to the farmers within June, Manipur Loumi Lup has cautioned of launching protest by joining hands with the people if the government fails to fulfill their demand.
In a release, Lup secretary H Ibobi Singh informed that the organisation convened a meeting on Thursday and discussed unavailability of urea in time, usage of urea after procuring at high rates from the black market and the increasing sale of farm lands by farmers due to low yield during the last five years.
The meeting presided over by Lup president N Singhajit denounced the new fertiliser policy of the government and contended that lack of foresight on the part of the agriculture minister and the director of agriculture department is the primary reason for the farmers unable to procure fertiliser in time.
Despite the frequent statements made in media by the agriculture minister about adequate stocking of urea for farmers, those attending the meeting questioned whether there is a hidden agenda of the government as they did not take up initiative to provide fertilisers to farmers on war footing manner.
The meeting also called for keeping adequate water pump sets in farming areas with 'RLI' so as to ensure sufficient water for farming.
Such initiatives will help in improving the economy of the farmers, the release added.
