Man arrested for sectarian FB post

Imphal, August 16 2021:
A man has been arrested by Imphal PS was making a communal post on Facebook regarding the Anglo-Manipuri War.
The arrested man has been identified as Thanglenpao Haokip (21) s/o Haikbulat Haokip of Saheibung village in Kangpokpi district.
According to a police report, on August 14, a Facebook account under the name of Thanglenpao Haokip uploaded a post roughly translated into "Those who participated in the Khongjom Battle did not represent the entirety of Manipur and so it could not be called Anglo-Manipuri War...
The present territory of Manipur came into being in 1949 when the then Maharaja Bodhchandra signed the merger agreement without consulting the Kuki chiefs" .
Imphal police station took up a sou-moto case regarding the post and launched an investigation.
During the course of the investigation, Thanglenpao Haokip was arrested from his residence on August 14 .
During questioning, Thanglenpao confessed that he is not well-versed with the history of Manipur and had posted the comment after seeing others posting their views as well.
Thanglenpao was later produced before a duty magistrate, who, upon being informed that he (Thanglenpao) was a student, granted bail on execution of a surety bond of Rs 70,000 .
He was also instructed to report to the 10 of the case for 5 days, the report conveyed.
