ABVP memo pitches for uplift of education system

Akhil Bharatiya Vidy-arthi Parishad (ABVP), Manipur submitted memorandums to Governor Anusuiya Uikey and chief minister N Biren containing demands to improve the education system for the benefit of the student community.
In separate meetings with the Governor and the CM on Monday, ABVP representatives highlighted issues and challenges currently besieging the education sector of the state.
After the meeting, ABVP Manipur state secretary Gautam Philem elaborated to media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday, about its initiatives for welfare of the student community and society at large.
He said that ABVP has been actively engaging with the government to address pressing issues related to education.
The demands raised by ABVP Manipur in the memorandum submitted to the Governor and the CM included addressing the ongoing educational crisis and challenges currently plaguing the state's education system along with proposing prompt implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in the state to improve the education sector.
The other demands include establishment of permanent campuses for Dhanamanjuri University (DMU), Manipur Technical University (MTU), and Manipur University of Culture (MUC), appointment of regular vice-chancellors and faculty members to ensure smooth functioning of the state's universities, improve infrastructure, time processing of admissions, examinations and declaration of results, set up one each government post-graduate college in every district and under-graduate government college in every sub-division to enhance access to higher education, constitute committee to ensure private universities and colleges comply with norms of University Grants Commission (UGC), implement reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in Manipur, address deprivation of scholarship funds to students for the past two years, and Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) conduct examinations in a timely and fair manner, resole examination irregularities, and tackle youth unemployment in Manipur.
Stressing the urgent need for restoring peace in the state and enhancing the quality of education, Gautam said the ABVP team urged the Governor and the CM to discuss all their demands in the upcoming state's budget session, which will begin from July 31.In case no action is taken up in this regard, ABVP Manipur will organise different forms of protests in pursuit of the demands, he cautioned.
