Book on Anglo-Kuki war released

A book titled 'The Anglo Kuki War 1917-1919 (Victory in Defeat): A Military Perspective' written by Col (Dr) Vijay Chenji was released by Khaimang Chongloi, president of Kuki Inpi, Manipur (KIM) during a function held at Sadbhavna Mandap, Tuibong here on Saturday.
The book was dedicated to God by Rev Stephen Chinzathang, secretary Sr PCI General Assembly, after its release.
During his speech, Khaimang Chongloi said that there are seven books, including the one released Saturday, written by various authors about the Anglo-Kuki War fought between 1917 and 1919 and this war was one of the most significant and formidable wars fought against the British in the north easfern state of India.
The KIM president expressed heartfelt gratitude to the state government for the recognition accorded to the Kuki Rising on October 17, 2019 by declaring the day as a restricted holiday and for construction of the war memorial park.
He also informed that various chiefs have donated lands fqr the construction of Anglo Kuki War Memorial Park in Chandel district, Vaison and Vajing in Churachandpur district and New Keithelmanbi under Kangpokpi district while five hectares of land have been set aside for the construction of an Anglo-Kuki War Memorial at Satiya in Assam.
Four monuments have also been set up at various places in memory of the War heroes, he added.
The event was also attended by Kuki Inpi Churachandpur president Letpu Haokip as chief host and Col (Dr) Vijay Chenji as special guest.
Col (Dr) Vijay Chenji stated that he was prompted to write about the Anglo-Kuki War as he has been fascinated by the War and after he was asked to present a paper by the North East History Association (NEHA), he made an in-depth study of the war and presented a paper about the War.
Vijay Chenji termed the outcome of the war as 'victory in defeat' because though the Kukis suffered a crushing defeat in the hands of British, they never lost heart and kept on fighting with same spirit and as a result the British were also inflicted a crushing defeat.
Cultural troupes of Hmar, Zou and Thadou tribes presented traditional dances while Ningmuanching, a renowned Paite Gospel artiste, presented a special song during the function.
