CME & workshop on EGFR mutation analysis for lung cancer held

Imphal, January 14 2025:
DIAMOnDS Project, under the aegis of DHR-ICMR, organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme, and a two-day hands-on workshop on 'Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) mutation analysis of lung cancer' at RIMS, Imphal Banting Hall and Department of Pathology on Monday and Tuesday.
The programme emphasised the critical role of EGFR testing using molecular methods in the diagnosis and subsequent targeted therapy of lung cancer.
Renowned experts, including professor Gayatri Devi Pukhrambam and QIAGEN's Dr Ayan Dutta, highlighted the advancements in molecular diagnostics and their relevance in improving patient outcomes, a release by RIMS PRO said.
The CME was inaugurated by RIMS director professor G Sunilkumar Sharma, while the keynote and welcome address were delivered by Department of Pathology head, professor Sushma Khuraijam.
The event saw active participation from faculty members, junior doctors of RIMS and JNIMS, as well as pathologists from state health services.
Senior residents and postgraduate students engaged in the hands-on workshop, gaining valuable practical experience, it said.
RIMS further highlighted the free molecular testing services for lung and breast cancer available free of cost, at the Department of Pathology.
The organisers encouraged the public to take advantage of these free services, which aim to improve early diagnosis and treatment outcomes.
