Two found dead, six abducted by Kuki militants

Imphal, November 12 2024:
Armed Kuki militants unleashed terror on Meetei localities in Jakuradhor areas in Jiribam district on Monday afternoon, leading to the disappearance of 10 Meetei individuals.
Of the 10, two persons were found dead with their bodies burnt, and two others returned home safely.
However, whereabouts of the remaining six individuals who were abducted by well-armed Kuki militants could not be ascertained.
The abductees include three women and three children including a 10-month old baby whose photos are being shared on social media by the abductors.
The two bodies, identified as Laishram Barel (63) and Maibam Kesho (71) were found amidst the ruins of the charred properties when locals returned to the site and assessed the situation on Tuesday.
While Barel's body was found charred, Kesho's partially burnt body had bullet wounds.
The two bodies have been taken to Silchar for post mortem examination.
The other two individuals, who safely returned home, are Pebam Rajkumar (64) and Oinam Thonglen.
Meanwhile, the six individuals abducted by the Kuki militants have been identified as Yurembam Rani (66), wife of late Nabakishore; Laishram Heitombi (25), wife of L Herojit, her two sons L Chingkheinganba (2.5) and L Lanngamba (10 months); Telem Thoibi (30), wife of Uttam and her daughter Thajanganbi (8) .
The Kuki militants shared photos of the six in their custody on social media but there is no official confirmation till the time of filing this report.
In a latest development, Kuki militants destroyed an erstwhile camp of CRPF at Narayanpur village, some 2 km from Borobekra police station, on Monday.
They also attacked Mongbung Meetei village as well as Uchathol Meetei village simultaneously.
IRB and CRPF teams rushed to the areas and are maintaining vigil.
Additional CRPF teams have been sent to Jiribam in helicopter of Indian Army.
Mention may be made that security forces discovered 10 bodies of Kuki militants in military fatigue along with three AK Rifles, four SLRs, two INSAS Rifles, one shotgun and one RPF with a live round, several rifle ammunition, and combat gears.
More than a dozen houses and several shops and buildings of Meetei residents of the area were burned down by the Kuki militants before the gunfight broke out with security forces leading to the killings.
According to a PTI report, eleven suspected militants were killed in the fierce gunfight with security forces on Monday after insurgents in camouflage uniforms, armed with sophisticated weapons, fired indiscriminately at a police station and an adjacent CRPF camp in Jiribam district.
Two CRPF personnel also sustained injuries during the heavy exchange of fire at Borobekra, and the condition of one of them was stated to be critical.
The situation in Jiribam remained calm but tense on Tuesday morning with policemen patrolling at vulnerable points, PTI quoted a police officer as saying.
