Shija hosts 27th annual conference of ASI, Manipur

Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), Manipur State Chapter organised its three-day 27th annual conference from October 11 at Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS), here.
A release issued by SAHS informed that the inauguration programme was attended by Health Services director Dr O Sanahanbi Devi as chief guest, Shija Hospitals & Research Institute and Shija Academy of Health Sciences chairman and managing director Dr Kh Palin as guest of honour, ASI treasurer Dr Bhanwar Lal Yadav as special guest of honour and ASI, Manipur chairman Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam as functional president.
Among others, delegates including Nazareth Hospital, Shillong senior consultant Dr Jayanta Kumar Das and Saroja Hospital, Thrichur Dr Suraja NV attended participated in the conference, which had surgeons from across India discussing and presenting papers on achieving surgical excellence.
The pre-conference workshop featured live surgery telecast from Shija Hospitals OT Complex to the SAHS auditorium, showcasing real-time surgical techniques.
The conference also included poster presentations by postgraduate and DNB students from Manipur's medical institutions, oral presentations, and a panel discussion.
Prof NB Singh best paper award session was also part of the event.
Dr Bhanwar Lal Yadav delivered the Late Dr Hawaibam Lal Mohan Singh Memorial Oration on "Safe Techniques in Common Laparoscopic Surgeries," while Dr Jayanta Kumar Das presented the Late Dr Wahengbam Motilal Singh Memorial Oration on "Innovative Techniques for Safe Surgery" .
As a part of the inauguration programme, a souvenir was released, while Dr Deepak Chingtham provided an overview of the ASI Manipur Chapter's activities and Dr Kh Palin emphasised the importance of quality assurance certifications, such as NABH, for patient safety.
Dr Bhanwar Lal Yadav congratulated the Manipur Chapter on being named the Best State Chapter for 2023 .
In their brief addresses, Dr O Sanahanbi informed that Manipur has been recognised as the best emerging state for organ donation and transplantation, as Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam highlighted the efforts toward safer surgery.
