Affordable yarns distributed to weavers

Imphal, June 12 2021:
Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation chairman S Achouba on Saturday distributed yarns at low prices to weavers in Wangoi Mamang Thiyam Leikai, who have been experiencing hard time due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking in this regard, Achouba informed that the yarns were distributed at the rate of Rs 380 per kg to weavers with own looms to aid them in earning some income during the pandemic.
Each weaver received 6kg of yarns, he conveyed, while adding that by providing ample and regular supply of yarns, the weavers can focus on working from home.
"Weaving is an occupation which can be taken up by the whole family, regardless of gender or age", he contended, while stressing the need to be extra careful during the pandemic.
As part of the programme, the chairman presented a widow named Thiyam ongbi Maipak with 6kg of yarns.
Face masks and hand santisers were also distributed to the participants.
On the other hand, Achouba appealed to shop owners/ traders not to hike the prices of essential items during the curfew/lockdown.
Mention may be made here that the Corporation had earlier distributed looms, electric spinning wheels and sewing machines to weavers in different places of Wangoi for free.
