Imphal, February 12 2025:
Poppies planted in about six acres of land in Kangpokpi district were reportedly destroyed by a combined team of security forces.
According to a police report, the poppy plantations were found during a drive conducted by personnel of state police, CRPF and Forest Department in the presence of an executive magistrate on a hill range between Khoripok and Sehjang villages under New Keithelmanbi police station on Tuesday.
The drive lasted for around 8 hours.

Police estimate that the decimated poppy plantations would have produced around 30 kg of opium.
Though no arrests have been made so far an FIR has been registered at New Keithelmanbi police station for further investigation, and to identify and book the poppy cultivators.
Notably, as per the Manipur Remote Sensing Applications Centre report, opium/poppy plantations across 20,000 acres were destroyed in seven years, as a part of the government's war on drugs.
Poppy is used for producing opium and other highly addictive illegal drugs.
