Many resent Biren's resignation amid crisis

Imphal, February 11 2025: Remonstrating against the resignation of chief minister N Biren amid the ongoing crisis, various meira paibi groups and public staged sit-in protests across the state on Tuesday.

Naharup Pangong Makhong Women Welfare Association, Naharup Huirem Leikai Women Welfare Association, and meira paibi activists of Bamon Kampu were among those who resorted to protests, voicing their opposition to the chief minister's resignation, calling it both "unwanted" and "untimely" .

The protesters argued that if the chief minister has stepped down, then the Speaker, who has failed to take action against the 10 Kuki MLAs, should also resign.

They said that the crisis will persist even if the chief minister is replaced and urged the Government of India to provide a suitable response to the ongoing situation, asserting that merely changing leadership will not resolve the issues at hand.

The protestors alsp shouted slogans such as "We condemn the resignation of the chief minster" and "Village Volunteers must not be arrested" .

Moidangpok Apunba Meira Paibi also organised sit-in protest at the local community hall on Tuesday.

Speaking on the sidelines, Meira Paibi president Samom Tombi expressed strong opposition to the resignation of chief minister N Biren amid the ongoing crisis.

She added that what is even more disheartening is the evident scramble for the position of chief minister, which, according to her, reflects a greater concern for personal power than for the welfare of the state and its people.

Tombi pointed out that the resignation of the chief minister had long been a demand of the Kuki narco-terrorists, who have been active since the outbreak of the crisis on May 3, 2023.She noted that these terrorists are celebrating the CM's resignation, while also raising suspicion that some valley MLAs, who are seemingly rejoicing Over the resignation, may have links to the Kuki narco-terrorists.

Meanwhile, Haoreibi Mayai Leikai Apunba Meira Paibi organised a sit-in protest under the banner "We condemn the resignation of CM Biren", "Those siding with the Kukis against the CM Biren are the enemies of the Meeteis", and "The Assembly Speaker, who failed to take action against those MLAs attempting to destroy Manipur while taking action against those defending it, should resign" .

Similar sit-in protest was also organised at Moidangpok Aheibam community hall by Moidangpok Khunjao Apunba Meira Paibi.
