Reacting to the statement of Kakching MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar that the central government has issued order for implementation of NRC in the state within March, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee secretary Kshetrimayum Kennedy suggested that the MLA make the order public or else clarify to the public if the statement was made for drawing political mileage.
Speaking to media persons at Block Congress Committee, Kakching office on Thursday, Kennedy recalled the statement of MLA Rameshwar in print and electronic media assuring implementation of NRC in the state within March citing order of the centre.
If true, the MLA's disclosure will definitely be welcomed and cherished by all as the same proposal is being made by CSOs, student bodies and the people and is also desire of the Congress Party.
As the present conflict is also because of the influx of illegal immigrants, implementation of NRC in the state might end the conflict by deporting the illegal immigrants.
The act will be done by Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India with the approval of centre, he explained.
Kennedy recalled the statement made by Manipur chief minister on April 1 that all preparation of NRC is completed by setting up Population Commission, however, the implementation cannot be done without the approval of the central government.
How far can the statement of MLA Rameshwar be trusted amidst the statement of the chief minister, he questioned, while reiterating the demand for making the order of the centre about implementation of NRC public.
Regarding the base year for the NRC, the MLA stated that it will be 1961 in contrast to the people's demand for 1951 as the cut-off year, he recounted, while adding that Congress Party will be delighted in discussing the matter in the interest of the people if the base year is mentioned in the order.
He also appealed to the people to support and take part in the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra which will flagged off from Manipur on January 14 .
