Bishnupur, October 10 2024:
The JAC Against the Suspicious Death of Yelam Subaschandra has threatened to launch intense agitations' including blockade of the Tiddim Line on October 16 if their demands are not honoured.
Subashchandra, a trainee of the 11th India Reserve Battalion (IRB) was found dead on October 6 morning at the Assam Police Training Centre, Dergaon.
Along with staging sit-in protest organised by the JAC at Nambol Temporary Market, a public meeting was held and various resolutions adopted unanimously.
The resolutions included demand for conducting judicial or magisterial enquiry into the incident, providing compensation to family of the deceased, offering government job to wife of the deceased, initiating effective safety measures for IRB recruits at the Manipur Police Training College, and to enforce total blockade of the Tiddim Line (Road) from 5 am to 5 pm on October 16 if the demands do not evoke positive response from the government authorities.
Speaking on the sidelines of the sit-in, JAC convenor Naorem Ganga contended that the incident occurred due to the government of Manipur not conducting training of the IRB recruits in the state, instead opting for Assam.
He alleged that the death of Subaschandra was due to incompetence of an officer at the training centre, who should therefore be suspended.
Naorem Ganga further demanded that the IRB recruits in Assam be brought back to Manipur for continuation of the training.
He urged the state government to either uphold demands of the JAC or own responsibility for any unwanted incidents that may arise.
