Writer Raghu Leishangthem no more, many condole

Imphal, September 10 2021:
Noted writer Raghu Leishangthem breathed his last in the wee hours Friday after a brief illness.
He was 62 and survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.
Raghu was born at Thoubal Leishangthem in 1959 and later shifted to Thangmeiband.
He joined excise deparment in 1979 as inspector and retired as deputy superintendent in 2019 .
He contributed nine poetry compendiums, including his first 'Punsi Telang-ga', and four short stories books for children to Manipuri literature.
His other literary works include 'Lanbu Lei Oina Sanariba', 'Nung Asi Laini, Lei Asi Eeni', 'Hanubigee Eshing Pun'; 'Athithi Uchek', 'Khungangi Chithi', 'Tenjei Amasung Nga Mamit', 'Chingsang Napomna Kapli', 'Basanta Oirasu Nakentha Oirasu', 'Patpangi Thoibi', 'Yen Laba Khonglakle', 'Khoriphaba' and 'Leiee Amadung Mamising' .
In recognition to his book 'Khungangi Chithi', Raghu Leishangthem was conferred Sahitya Akademi award in 2009 and Akademi's Bal Sahitya award in 2013 for his children short stories book 'Patpangi Thoibi' .
He was also recipient of Telem Abir (2005), Naorem Kanhai Literary (2007), Yambem Mani (2009) and Chandrasakhi Laishram Chumthang Literary (2012) awards.
Many of his books have been translated into different languages including Punjabi, Hindi, English, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi and Nepali.
Raghu Leishangthem was also president of Patriotic Writers Forum and functionaries of many other literary bodies.
Meanwhile, the Cultural Forum Manipur, Seireng Seihek Seipal Semgat Lup (SEIPAL) and North East Writers Forum, among others, deeply condoled the untimely demise of Raghu Leishangthem.
