Weapons recovered, hideout busted, UG cadres arrested

Joint security teams intensified search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas of both the hill and valley districts, leading to recoveries of arms, ammunition, and explosives, as well as arrest of several UG cadres.
According to a press release of police control room, in a recent operation, a large cache of weapons and explosives was recovered from an area between Sagang and Naodakhong foothills in Bishnupur district.
The recovered items included an AK-56 rifle with one magazine, an SMC carbine with magazine, three single-barrel guns, a bulletproof vest, a bulletproof plate rubber, six tear smoke shells, six 36 HE hand grenades with two rings, three 12-bolt cartridges, 10 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, two .303 rounds, and four improvised explosive devices (lEDs).
The IEDs included one red-coloured device weighing 1.650 kg, a black-coloured device weighing 1.950 kg with wires, another weighing 400 grams, and the fourth weighing 350 grams.
In another operation on Sunday, security forces busted a hideout of the armed National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) at Tellou Makha Leikai under Lamlai police station.
Seven cadres of the organisation were arrested for their involvement in extortion, arms trade, and other unlawful activities.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Moirangthem Somokanta Singh alias Pakpa (26) son of late Mangi of Moirang Thamnapokpi Kha Leikai, Thongam Iboton Singh alias Thouyangba (34) son of Modon of Jiribam Boroikhan, Heisnam Rohit Meitei alias Mangangngamba (32) son of Yaima of Moirang Thamnapokpi Mamang Leikai, Yaikhom Inao Singh alias Chinglai (20) son of Ibungcha of Ngaikhong Siphai Maning Leikai Ward No 7, Nameirakpam Jotin Meitei alias Phirep-pa (33) son of late Basanta of Langol Laimanai Mamang Leikai, Ningthoujam Premku-mar Singh alias Punsirol (32) son of Manglemba of Keibul Mayai Leikai, and Hemam John Singh alias Athoiba (33) late Sanayaima of Moirang Khunou Mayai Leikai.
An Al assault rifle with magazine and 15 rounds, AK-47 rifle with magazine and 13 rounds, two INSAS rifles with magazines and 12 rounds, two SLR rifles with magazines and 30 rounds, five bulletproof jackets, three mobile phones, and two wallets were also recovered from their possession.
Police source said that they were arrested during an operation conducted by a joint team of Imphal East district police & CDOs, 1st Manipur Rifles, 8th Bihar Regiment, and 4 Assam Rifles led by Imphal East additional SP (Ops), following report of arms loot at Kakmayai.
The security team raided a kut-cha structure, believed to be their hideout, and arrested the seven.
They disclosed that they work under one Thangjam Dhabalo alias Macha alias Premananda alias Naocha of Nonggren Maning Leikai.
In the meantime, local women of Tellou maintained that the seven persons arrested by security forces are village volunteers, and demanded their unconditional release.
On the other hand, police arrested an illegal arms smuggler, Khoisnam Roshan Singh (27) of Atoukhong Laiphrak-pam, Thoubal, from Porompat area on Saturday.
Police said that he was involved in extortion activities targeting the public, government officials, and shopkeepers.
From his possession, a mobile phone and a voter card were seized.
In another operation, police arrested an active member of the proscribed Revolutionary People's Front/People's Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) on Saturday.
The individual, identified as Ningthoujam Khamba alias Nganba Meitei (52), was apprehended from Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak Machin near a public toilet under City police station in Imphal West district.
He was directly involved in extorting money from rented quarters and shops in the Nagamapal and Uripok areas.
Items seized from him included a two-wheeler, two mobile handsets, a wallet containing Rs 510, and an Aadhaar card.
Additionally, on the same day, two active members of the banned (Pambei-led) United National Liberation Front (UNLF) were arrested from Narankonjil near Chandranadi in Imphal West district.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Khoisnam Ronaldo Singh (23) and Soram Ngouba Meitei alias Sanatomba (30) .
They were involved in extorting money from the public, government officials, and shopkeepers in Greater Imphal areas.
They were also engaged in the illegal smuggling of arms and ammunition to facilitate extortion activities, police said.
A .32 pistol with magazine, a two-wheeler vehicle, two mobile phones, and wallet containing Rs 3,120 were also seized from their possession.
