Imphal, November 08 2021:
Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) along with Manipur Apex Handloom and Handicrafts Artisan & Co- operative Society Ltd and Women for Social Change (WSC) organised a one-day state level conference on capacity building for youth at Ima Liwa Lairembi Multi-Purpose hall, Chanam Pukhri Mapal on Monday.
Speaking at the event held under the supervision of National Commission for Women, MSCW chairperson Binota Meinam informed that the conference was conducted with the objective for transforming the talent of youth particularly women into a skilled one so as to make them live a decent life in the society.
Women should never undermine themselves, she said, while highlighting the need to see the strength and power in woman.
The idea of woman being a sub -ordinate being should be done away with, she added.
While pointing out that culture of the society is mainly preserved by the womenfolk, Binota said that women have been at the forefront of any issues of the land.
However, when it comes to decision making for the society, women have always been neglected.
It is unfortunate that more women candidates are not elected in legislative assembly despite having higher number of women voters.
It is the right time to elect women candidates to raise the issues of women with more power in the assembly, she maintained.
While urging the people to increase representation of women in the state assembly, Binota observed that the issues of women could not be fought if women fail to understand and jojn hands.
Manipur Apex Handloom and Handicrafts Artisan & Co-operative Society Ltd vice president S Bubhon said that the programme was conducted to empower women amidst Covid-19 pandemic as youth and women in particular have vital role to play in shaping a society.
Several resource persons spoke on different topics during the programme.
